On Friday 9 September Cuba presented a report on the ongoing impact of the US blockade to the United Nations in advance of the annual vote. The report says that the island has lost $4.7 billion dollars over the last year and US $753.7 billion over the last six decades.

Presenting the report, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, highlighted the fact that despite the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Washington and Havana, the US blockade remains present in all areas supported with “absurd legislation" like the Trading with the Enemy Act.

“If the ban on trade continues, it will be very hard to make things visible, the investment of US companies remains prohibited, imports and exports are prohibited ... a Cuban bank is prohibited from opening an account in a US bank and that makes economic relations difficult,” Rodriguez said.
