At 11:00am, Oslo, Norway: "The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2017 to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). The organization is receiving the award for its work to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for its ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons."

Watch the announcement here.

Obviously there are no words to express what we're all feeling right now. But simply put, to every one that worked to make the Ban Treaty a reality - congratulations!!!!

It is a great honour to have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2017 in recognition of our role in achieving the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

You can read the full ICAN statement here.

And I want to share my absolute favourite photo from yesterday, a shot of Setsuko Thurlow, long-term peace activist, supporter of ICAN and survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, at the moment when the announcement was made.

We still have our work cut out for us, and with this enormous honour, we will continue to work to ensure that all states joins this treaty and that nuclear weapons will be eliminated.

With huge honour and gratitude for the support we have gotten for this campaign - thank you!!
