Briefing: The European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) has been up and running for a while now. The proclamation on 17 November 2017 was a symbolic moment, a moment of renewed hopes and dreams for advancement of Social Europe. While the Social Pillar did not immediately change the lives of European citizens, it did contain a promise of better times and better rights ahead. Following in this direction, there has been a meaningful change in the social discourse, a move from inaction to action. Many old as well as new legislative and non-legislative initiatives have been introduced and advanced by the European Commission, and some have been agreed and put into law by the European Parliament and Council. It is time to assess the status of the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights. Has it delivered? If so, what exactly, and for whom? It is also time, in the light of the recent European elections, to contemplate the future of the Pillar by reflecting on its possible destiny during the next political term. Is the political momentum of the Pillar still going strong and, if yes, in which direction?
