Changemakers maken elke dag het verschil. Het zijn mensen en organisaties die zich in het Zuiden organiseren om voor hun rechten op te komen.
Daarbij kunnen ze onze steun goed gebruiken. Want wat ze doen is moedig en niet altijd zonder risico. Daarom voert 11.11.11 dit jaar campagne om hun werk in de kijker te zetten.
Het 11.11.11 comité van Brussel-vijfhoek geeft op maandag 18 november het woord aan zo'n changemaker uit Palestina. Asrar Kayal is een Palestijnse politieke en feministische activiste. Zij biedt psychosociale steun aan Palestijnse kinderen, jongeren en vrouwen.
Een aanzienlijk deel van de Palestijnen in de Westelijke Jordaanoever en in de Israëlische gebieden lijdt onder trauma en stress door de voortdurende schendingen van hun fundamentele rechten door de bezetting. Asrar ondersteunt bewegingen die de empowerment van Palestijnse jongeren en kinderen versterken. Strijden voor het recht op gezondheid van alle Palestijnen is haar missie.
Deze avond wordt georganiseerd in samenwerking met Viva Salud en Palestina Solidariteit en gaat door in het Engels. Every single day, changemakers make the difference. They are people and organisations that are organising in the South in order to assert their rights.
As their work requires courage and is not always without risk, our support is welcome. That is why, this year, 11.11.11 is focusing its annual campaign on them.
On Monday November 18, the Brussels 11.11.11 committee will give the floor to one of these changemakers from Palestine. Asrar Kayal is a Palestinian political and feminist activist. She offers psychosocial support to Palestinian young people, women and children.
Both in the Occupied West Bank as in Israeli territories, a significant part of Palestinians cope with trauma and stress caused by the permanent violations of their most basic rights by the occupation. Asrar supports movements that strengthen the empowerment of Palestinian youth and children and considers that it is very important to struggle for the right to health of all Palestinians.
The evening will be organised in cooperation with Viva Salud and Palestina Solidariteit and will be English spoken.
