EAJS and UPJB Action Day:No Trade with Israeli Settlements!Sunday, 22 May 2022, 14:00-17:00
Een Andere Joodse Stem (EAJS) and l’Union des Progressistes Juifs de Belgique (UPJB) support the European Citizens’ Initiative to ban trade with illegal settlements:
- We demand that the European Union will end trade with illegal settlements in occupied territories, including the occupied Palestinian territory and illegal Israeli settlements.
- We ask the EU to apply international law and human rights consistently, including in its trade relations.
- We do not want to be complicit through our purchases in the colonization and violence inflicted on the Palestinian people and others.
A European Citizens’ Initiative is not like a regular petition: If we gather 1 million signatures on the ECI, it will force the European Commission to discuss concrete steps in this direction and to prepare a bill to the European Parliament.
As Jewish organizations in Belgium we fully support this ECI: opposing Israei apartheid and standing for justice and human rights reflects our Jewish values and humanistic worldview.
This is why we are going out to the streets to meet people and collect as many signatures as possible!

Geen handel met Israëlische nederzettingen!
Een Andere Joodse Stem (EAJS) en l’Union des Progressistes Juifs de Belgique (UPJB) steunen het Europees burgerinitiatief om de handel met illegale nederzettingen te verbieden:
- We eisen dat de Europese Unie een einde maakt aan de handel met illegale nederzettingen in bezette gebieden, zoals het bezette Palestijns gebied en de illegale Israëlische nederzettingen.
- We vragen de EU om het internationaal recht en de mensenrechten consequent toe te passen, ook in haar handelsbetrekkingen.
- We willen niet medeplichtig zijn door onze aankopen aan de kolonisatie en het geweld dat het Palestijnse volk en anderen wordt aangedaan.
Een Europees Burger Initiatief is niet zoals een gewone petitie: als we 1 miljoen handtekeningen op het EBI verzamelen, zal het de Europese Commissie dwingen om concrete stappen in deze richting te bespreken en een wetsvoorstel voor het Europees Parlement op te stellen.
Als Joodse organisaties in België staan we volledig achter dit EBI: het verzet tegen de apartheid van Israël en het opkomen voor gerechtigheid en mensenrechten weerspiegelt onze Joodse waarden en humanistisch wereldbeeld.
Daarom gaan we de straat op om mensen te ontmoeten en zoveel mogelijk handtekeningen te verzamelen!
