His employer is a German company called Redpath Deilmann, which is owned by the Canadian company Redpath Mining. The decision by the company to suspend Mikalaj came after a year's struggle by workers to have their workplace inspected for safety. They created a local union with the support of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union (BITU).

Redpath responded with reprisals, including a failure to renew Mikalaj's contract. The company has also refused to engage in dialogue with the union over their legitimate safety concerns.

As a result, the workers are expected to accept unsafe working conditions and have no recognised union nor agreement with the employer.

Please support the new campaign calling on Redpath to allow Mikalaj to return to work and to work together with the union to ensure a safe workplace.
