Peer-to-Peer, afgekort P2P, staat voor een wijze van produceren waarin producenten als gelijken (‘peers’) een goed creëren dat ze dan ook gemeenschappelijk gebruiken. Het gemeenschappelijke beheer staat hier centraal. Denk aan Wikipedia bijvoorbeeld, waar je zowel de rol kan opnemen van producent als van gebruiker. Deze nieuwe manier van produceren behoort tot de commons, of burgercollectieven, waar burgers collectief instaan voor het beheer van goederen.

Michel Bauwens, Vasilis Kostakis & Alex Pazaitis gaan in hun nieuwe boek ‘Peer to peer: The commons manifesto’ in op deze nieuwe manier van produceren. Als lid van de P2P-Foundation maken ze in het boek duidelijk hoe deze nieuwe vorm van produceren mogelijkheden biedt voor het creëren van een economie die billijkheid, duurzaamheid en openheid combineert.

Auteurs

Michel Bauwens is de oprichter van de P2P Foundation en werkt in samenwerking met een wereldwijde groep onderzoekers aan de verkenning van peer-productie, governance en eigendom op basis van commons.
Vasilis Kostakis is de hoogleraar P2P Governance aan de Technische Universiteit van Tallinn en faculteitsmedewerker aan de universiteit van Harvard. Hij is ook gastprofessor aan de Autonome Universiteit van Barcelona. Vasilis is de oprichter van het P2P Lab en kernlid van de P2P Foundation.

Alex Pazaitis is een kernlid van het P2P Lab en een Junior Research Fellow bij de Ragnar Nurkse-afdeling aan de Technische Universiteit van Tallinn.

Peer-to-Peer, or P2P, stands for a production method in which producers like equals ('peers') create a good that they use in common. The common management is central here. Think Wikipedia for example, where you can take both the role of producer and user. This new way of producing belongs to the commons, or citizen collectives, where citizens collectively take care of the management of goods.

Michel Bauwens, Vasilis Kostakis & Alex Pazaitis go into this new way of producing in their new book 'Peer to peer: The commons manifesto'. As a member of the P2P Foundation, they make clear in the book how this new form of production offers opportunities for creating an economy that combines fairness, sustainability and openness.

Authors

Michel Bauwens is the Founder of the P2P Foundation and works in collaboration with a global group of researchers in the exploration of commons-based peer production, governance, and property.
Vasilis Kostakis is the Professor of P2P Governance at Tallinn University of Technology and Faculty Associate at Harvard University. He is also Visiting Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Vasilis is the founder of the P2P Lab and core member of the P2P Foundation.

Alex Pazaitis is a Core Member of the P2P Lab and a Junior Research Fellow at the Ragnar Nurkse Department, Tallinn University of Technology.
