Background
As part of its climate package (Fit for 55), the EU will introduce a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). This mechanism will require companies exporting to the EU to pay for their carbon emissions if their countries have lower environmental standards than the EU.
The measure will affect many trading partners , including the poorest countries.
While the poor are most affected by the climate crisis, they are the least responsible for carbon emissions. What will the impact be on the poorest countries and what can EU decision-makers do to make sure they are not disproportionally affected by new EU rules to fight the climate crisis?
During the event, EU decision-makers and researchers together with experts from the African continent, will answer this question. The interventions will be followed by a Q&A.
