On 28 and 29 November 2019, the very first European meeting of the Blue Communities will take place in Brussels.
In its 2019 Regional Policy Statement, the Brussels-Capital Regional Government confirmed its intention to join the international community of the Blue Communities. The Blue Planet Project, together with the Brussels Capital Region Government and the Brussels Blue Community, is organizing the very first European meeting of the Blue Communities in the capital.
The Blue Planet Project was established in 2009 by the Council of Canadians to encourage cities, organizations and communities around the world to be more conscious about the treatment of water. In concrete terms, the organization is committed to guaranteeing the human right of access to water, to promoting the use of tap water in any local context, prohibiting bottled water and ensuring that water production, distribution, drainage and treatment are managed exclusively by public institutions.
Since its creation, more than 40 communities have joined the Blue Communities. Its members include the European cities of Berlin, Paris, Zurich, Cadiz, Thessaloniki, the Universities of Sankt Gallen and Lavras, the World Council of Churches,...

Also public event will also be held on 29 November from 19:30 to 23:00 at COOP (Quai Demets, 23). The objective of our event is to bring together actors and experts from Brussels who have expertise in the treatment of water, as well as citizens who are curious about the subject. The aim will be to question the place that this vital resource occupies in our daily lives, while proposing solutions that would allow us to improve its management.
